Trump Versus The US Constitution
Over the past few months my Twitter feed (@planandprep) as well as my Facebook have been dominated by “patriots” of this nation telling anyone with an account that Donald “The Donald” Trump is THE ONLY choice for real Americans in the upcoming election. Battles have raged about Mr. Trump being the only person capable and willing to fight for the Constitutional rights of Americans and bring this country back to glory. There have been endless stories in amateur media and on websites touting the great hero and just how important it is to elect him to save our Constitution. I hate to say it, and I know people will get angry for it, but….
Perhaps those people, and “The Donald”, need to actually read the Constitution.
The First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees every American “Freedom of Religion”. It does this by prohibiting the making of ANY law respecting an establishment of religion or impeding the free exercise of religion. When Mr. Trump stands on a stage demonizing Muslims as terrorists and evil, then suggests that closing down mosques would help alleviate the fears of the public he is, without a doubt, talking about shredding the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
The First Amendment also guarantees “Free Speech” and “Freedom of the Press”. Mr. Trump further soils this great document each and every time he bars or tosses out journalists at his rallies simply because they are affiliated with a newspaper or magazine that wrote something about him that he didn’t like. Many “patriots” don’t mind this because he is mostly targeting the liberal media, but in truth what he is doing is ensuring that his message goes out to the world in its best light, no questions asked.
So, four of the six protections afforded to citizens by the First Amendment are just not worthy of Donald Trump. Keep that in mind. We have also heard The Donald discussing tearing up the Iran deal, not abiding by The Geneva Convention, getting rid of the Affordable Care Act and many other things. No matter how you feel about each of these items, none are things the President of the United States has the power to eliminate without approval from other bodies of government, foreign or domestic.
If you are a “patriot” that loves the US Constitution, touting your love of Trump means you either don’t know what the US Constitution actually says, or you only REALLY care about certain aspects of the US Constitution, which by and large means you really don’t care about it at all.
